Meet Erika from The Happy Home Project

Welcome to The Happy Home Project, a place where I share our fixer upper restoration, budget-friendly (and practical) do-it-yourself projects, healthy living, and our small family’s simple life.
My husband, Tony and I, moved into our fixer upper farmhouse style home on three acre land with our two fur pups. We have always enjoyed renovating so we both wanted to find an old, forgotten home with potential charm. By taking on this project, we have learned about the beauty of preserving, enduring, and realizing that it takes time to make a house a home.
ABOUT ME
I’m a city girl who married a small town man and together we are making a life we have always dreamed of. Busy living will always be something that’s apart of me, but I always craved a simpler and slower life.
I graduated from college with my degree in Early Childhood Education. For several years, I taught preschool in a traditional classroom setting as well as spent some of my teaching career teaching Nature Preschool to 3-4 year olds (outdoor education is the BEST!). Life took some turns and I later left my teaching position to pursue everything interior design and content creation. Teaching will always be a part of who I am. I’m grateful for this new direction and to still be using my gift of teaching in new creative ways!
I am a follower of God. I pray that the words I say, the actions that I make, and the way I love others reflects Christ… in all that I do.
I’m a health enthusiast. I enjoy joyful movement, whole foods, and home remedies. Our refrigerator is stocked with a rainbow of colors and our cabinets with essential oils and herbs.
My husband and I got married during the midst of the pandemic (#covidbride). 80% of our wedding decor was thrifted or handmade.
I have been a thrifter since the age of 16. I started off thrifting with my friends for fun; finding things like clothes and such. As I started my college career and had a space of my own, I began using thrifting as a way to find affordable home decor. I still practice thrifting and antiquing for our home today. You’ll hear me say this a lot here, I believe that anyone can achieve a modern home that they love without spending your entire paycheck.
We are so happy you are here and have chosen to follow along on our family’s journey!
